Ψ Systemic Family Psychotherapist

B.Psy. (Hons)(Melit.); M.Sys.Fam.Psych. (IFT)

PPBM Warrant No. 363

Speaks:English, Maltese

Melvin graduated with a Bachelor of Psychology (Honours) from the University of Malta in 2014 and read for his Masters in Systemic Family Psychotherapy at IFT-Malta. In between, he worked for over 6 years in local community mental health services across the islands where he found a fondness for caring, empowering and advocating for people experiencing a range of mental health difficulties. These included depression, anxiety, and psychosis in different contexts – whether schools, home, at work or in a relationship.

Melvin has experience working as a family therapist in a school and residential care setting, where he supports children between the ages of 8 and 17 coming from a background of complex family issues, severe trauma and neglect. Through his professional work, he supports both the children and their families, including parents and siblings, in creative sessions to find a path forward to family wellness. His areas of expertise could be encapsulated under the term relational work, which can include but is not limited to couple conflict, parent-child conflict, parenting styles, child and teen behavioural issues, life transitions (e.g separation, career changes, identity issues, spirituality) and family cycle issues. He also has vast experience in working with groups, delivering psycho-educational training/workshops, facilitating group dynamics sessions at the place of work and team-wellbeing.

Melvin’s experience and knowledge have shown him that keeping a non-judgemental and de-pathologising attitude can develop a nurturing therapeutic relationship with his clients. He’s a huge advocate for personal and relational therapy and the life-long growth and enriching benefits it can provide. Simultaneously, he also understands that most people might not want to be in therapy forever and thus he is passionate about helping and empowering clients in reaching their goals. He is a big believer in also accompanying them to maintain the skills learned and adopted in the therapeutic journey to keep finding their own solutions long-term, outside of the therapy room.

Melvin is an avid book-reader, loves thought-provoking movies, holds two black belts in Kempo Karate and Jiujitsu, and is passionate about weightlifting and strength training. He loves spending time with loved ones, especially if food or laughter (or both) are involved, as well as recharging in the simplicity of nature.

  • 5 sessions – €270 – must be utilised within 3 months from date of purchase
  • 10 sessions – €520 – must be utilised within 6 months from date of purchase

2. Bundles are not transferable. This means they cannot be used by, or gifted to, anyone else but the person whose name is listed as the TherapyPacks bundle holder.

3. Bundles which are purchased for Couples Therapy and Family Therapy can only be used by members of the couple or family with one therapist. If members of a couple or family decide to take up individual therapy with another therapist, the bundle will only apply to sessions with the therapist originally referred and cannot be also used for the individual sessions with another therapist. 9. Management reserves the right to modify or replace the terms and conditions. In such circumstances, clients will be given adequate notice and time to adhere to such.

10. The clinic’s cancellation policy is applicable also to bundles. Late cancellations or no shows will result in the forfeit of a session within the bundle allocation.

11. Responsibility for ensuring timely use of session bundles remains that of the TherapyPacks bundle holder or, in the case of a minor, their carer/legal guardian.
